Defining My “Why”

Starting a business is terrifying. Why would someone willingly put themselves out there and fear rejection, not being good enough, or simply not offering something people are interested in? It’s a lot to consider, but I have a few reasons why the fear is worth it.

  1. Passion I’m extremely passionate about the Rockford community, and what nonprofits are doing here. Even though I’m relatively new to the area, I’ve felt the heart of Rockford and been welcomed with open arms. I want to take something I love and use it to help the lifeblood of our home.
  2. Relationships I know how important relationships are to a healthy business. Social media is an incredible way to engage with your customers or volunteers, and I want to help facilitate that. When a community is connected it thrives.
  3. Freedom This one has two sides. I want to give my clients freedom by allowing them to dedicate more time to what they love. I want them to remember why they initially started their business, and give them the chance to do more of it! I also love the freedom having my own business will give my family and I.

When starting a new venture, it’s critical to define your “why”. Growing a business is hard, especially when working in another position. When things get tough and you feel like giving up, you will have something concrete to look back on. If you didn’t do this when you first started out don’t worry! It’s never too late to write up a few reasons and keep them in a safe place.

What is your why?
